The IAAF has announced that women's steeplechase has been added to its weekly World Rankings system, an action suggesting the event will be included in more Grand Prix meets and other major competitions.
For the 2005 edition of Kansas Relays the most popular events have been placed together in a three-hour package on Saturday afternoon, April 23. Included is the women's 3000-meter steeplechase.
Australia's David Tarbotton wrote that "The women's 3000m steeplechase continues to be added to international championships following the inaugural appearance at the 2004 World Junior Championships. It is great news that the event is now confirmed for the 2006 Commonwealth Games."
Athletics Canada is considering submission of a Canadian bid to the International Federation (IAAF) for hosting the 2008 World Junior Championships and is seeking letters of intent from interested parties.
