World Youth ChampsMay 25, 2007
|
---|
USA Track and Field has announced the USA team roster, subject to change, for IAAF World Youth Championships -- 16 boys and 15 girls plus a team staff of eight (four coaches and four managers). That roster includes no steeplers.
The World Youth Championships, July 11-1 5 at Ostrava in the Czech Republic, is for athletes ages 15, 16, or 17 (born in 1990, 1991 or 1992). The entry standard for Girls 2000m steeplechase is 6 minutes 52 seconds achieved between 1 January 2006 and 25 June 2007.
However, a qualified athlete is required to have competed in USATF Junior Championships, or 2006 USATF Youth Championships, or 2006 USATF National Junior Olympic Championships.
A USA girl capable of achieving that 6:52 standard in the USA Junior Championships, before June 25 final deadline for Ostrava entry, would be unable to do so because that meet does not include a 2000m steeple despite being specified by USATF Rule 10-2(d). And if she was born in 1992 her division in 2006 USATF Youth Champs and Junior Olympics did not include steepling. | Return to News
