International Meet in USAMarch 7, 2005
|
---|
The "Pacific Rim Sports Summit" will bring teams from nine nations together 7-12 June 2005 for high-level competition in the Seattle area which hosted a similar gathering -- the 1990 Goodwill Games.
The 2005 competition is for athletes from Australia, Canada, China, Japan, Korea, Mexico, New Zealand, Russia, and United States. Sports to be contested include track and field athletics, aquatics, archery, basketball, cycling, gymnastics, softball, and volleyball..
Track and field is scheduled for two sessions, at a new athletics complex in southwest Seattle: starting at 1900 Friday, June 10, and at 1100 Saturday, June 11. This is the weekend between Prefontaine grand prix meet in nearby Eugene and the USA Championships in California.
The schedule of track events has not yet been fixed, but women's steeplechase in its world championship year should be a logical and attractive inclusion. Further, the Seattle meet site is well-equipped for steeplechase including a water jump in the optimum location.
The U.S. Olympic Committee is publicizing this international competition including track and field spectator admission ticket prices at three levels -- US $55, $40, and $22 via "Ticketmaster."
