Pacific Rim Meet CancelledApril 18, 2005

The two-day international track meet, scheduled June 10-11 at Seattle, has been canceled according to a release from the U.S.Olympic Committee and stories from USA media outlets. That ends for now the hopes of a suggested race matching women steeplers from Australia, Canada, China, Russia, USA and other nations bordering the Pacific Ocean.
In Spring 2004, when Steeple Report was first advised about this meet, we pointed out that June 10-11 would conflict with the major university championships of the host nation -- NCAA Division 1 at Sacramento. Those dates also made Seattle's University of Washington stadium unavailable because it was needed on those dates for university graduation activity.
A later date in July might have more appeal to Australia and other teams en route to the 2005 World Championships August 6-14 at Helsinki, Finland, by reducing their travel time and expense.
