Qualifying performances must be made in competitions organized or authorized by the IAAF, its Area Associations, or its National Member Federations, Those competitions must be organized in conformity with IAAF Rules. For qualifying performances, university or school competitions must be certified by the National Federation of the country in which the competition is organized. Performances achieved in mixed (male and female) events will not be accepted.
Although three "A" standard athletes from a nation have been able to compete in Olympic and World Championship competition, the 2007 World Youth Championships have a variant procedure: Three can be entered but only two can compete.
