Steeple Safety and Track OrientationMarch 13, 2010
|
---|
In Part Two of our “steeplers safety series” we mentioned that
A track’s straightaway orientation can be a critical variable to avoid sun or bright lights in the eyes of a steepler going over a barrier.
Example: if a track’s straightaways are east-west AND the finish line is in such track’s northwest quadrant, then water jump should
be just north of the east curve’s center point. So athletes would
look north, not facing sun, as they go over the barrier and water.
We have seen that orientation at venues such as the University
of Tennessee and the West Seattle Stadium.
