Messner-Vickers Breaks American 2000m Steeplechase Record
May 6, 2007
Carrie Messner-Vickers of Asics won the AMC Invitational 2000m Steeplechase at the Nashville High Performance Twilight Meet I last night (May 5, 2007). Her time of 6:20.66 broke the previous American 2000m Steeplechase Record, held by Kelly Strong, by over 5 seconds.

The 2000m steeplechase is an event rarely contested beyond the high school level, especially in the United States. The American Record for the standard 3000m steeplechase is 9:29.32, set by Briana Shook in 2004. Dave Milner of Tennessee Running put together an impressive field for last night's invitational 2000m steeplechase, including Messner-Vickers (Ranked #1 in the US in 2006) and Lisa Galaviz (the 2006 National Champion). Galaviz was 2nd to Messner-Vickers in 6:26.72.
