Welcome New Venue
May 21, 2007
Managers of a 1953 meet at West Seattle Stadium, a city park department facility, positioned the steeplechase water jump to give spectators a view from the grandstand of this popular activity. On 12 May 2007 that stadium, newly renovated, continued the highly visible water jump tradition -- with women's steeple the first usage.

Two safety features here enhance steeplers vision: 1-They face north at the water jump, assuring no sun in their eyes; 2-Because there is no extraneous material placed between barrier uprights, runners approaching the barrier can see if anyone has fallen in the pit and avoid landing atop downed athletes.

PHOTO (below) shows Sarna Becker of Club Northwest in the water -- followed by Sarah Benson of Central Washington University, Larsen Agee and Chelsea Rutter of Spokane Community College, then Kim Beamon of Seattle Pacific University.

Karin Rohde of SPU won this steeple race in the Ken Foreman Invitational meet which also served as the 2007 Championships of Pacific Northwest Association, USATF.
