World Athletics Final Set for September 22-23September 9, 2007
|
---|
Women’s steeplechase competition occurs most of the calendar year because of different seasons around the world. However, the final 2007 meeting of world-class steeplers will occur later this month in the “World Athletics Final” at Stuttgart, Germany.
The recently concluded “World Championships” at Osaka, Japan, required several rounds in most track events. Some distance runners perform better in meets requiring just one race – a final. That format is common in major invitational meets as well the World Athletics Final
WAF competitors earn entry by scoring place points in meets on the “World Athletics Tour” schedule: Grand Prix meets – and some IAAF Area Permit meets between January and September.
The 11 top-score runners in races of 1500m and longer with the most points from their 5 best races automatically qualify for WAF meet. But they must have scored points in at least 3 qualifying meets. If a points tie occurs, the run-ner with season’s best time will qualify for the WAF.
The IAAF can invite one “wild card” runner, creating a field of 12; all of whom can win prizes by finishing.
Women’s steeplechase is offered by relatively few of the meets listed by IAAF as scoring-eligible competitions. So less than 11 steeplers now appear, after Rieti Grand Prix, to have scored in the minimum of three listed meets.
