Lists Coming
September 30, 2004

During the Autumn months we publish our annual best marks lists by female athletes in the 1500m, 2000m, and 3000m steeplechase events. List marks must be made with regulation 3.66m water jump in real races, not solo runs, and against females only rather than "mixed" events with both genders.
In addition to "open" lists, by athletes of any age, we publish age group marks by junior athletes under age 20 and by senior athletes of age 35 and older. These use the 2000m distance, used by most nations for their junior championships, and the increasingly popular 1500m steeple. Such listings require athletes birthdates -- included by some, though not all, of our sources.
Throughout the year our readers send us results, providing the base for a first round of world lists. Then we receive corrections, as well as additions through Dec. 17 from the Southern Hemisphere's season, that are reflected in a revised second round.
Last year our second round 1500m list had 70 under the 5:30 cutoff time; dozens of such marks came to us later. At least 70 females bettered 7:00 in the 2000m steeple. The top 100 for 3000m steeple bettered 10:26; even more have already done so in 2004.
