Some New IAAF Rule Changes Affect SteeplersNovember 1, 2007
|
---|
Rule 169.6 now allows the water depth at barrier end of pit to be reduced from 70 cm (27.5 inches) to 50 cm (19.75 inches).“It is recommended that all new water pits be con-structed to the shallower depth.” Old pits can be altered.
Rule 163.3 [Running in Lanes] adds running “on a bend, on or inside the line marking inside of the track …including diversion from the track for the steeplechase water jump”
[Major effect may be at venues with water jump outside the track as steepler vision could focus on a barrier obscured by other runners.] Tip: Be aware of the boundary lines!
