Chinese City Games, 2 Nov 2007 – Wuhan, CHN
Liu Nian of Shenyang set new Asian continent records,
open and junior, at the sixth Chinese City Games as she won the 3000m steeplechase in 9:26.25. That time is also a new Chinese national record and Olympic “A” qualifier. It was a great improvement over her fifth-place 10:41.59 in the Chinese Junior National Champs on June 4 at Chengdu.
The previous Chinese best was 9:32.35 by Li Zhenzhu at Suzhou on June 10 in the Chinese trials for World Champ- ionships where Zhu Yanmei was second in 9:32.36. Both were well under the 9:46 Olympic “A” qualifier time. China now has three good qualifiers for the Beijing Olympics.
