Steepler Tops World Mountain
October 4, 2005
Russian steepler Julia Mochalova led the junior division of World Mountain Running Trophy on 5 Sep 2005 at Wellington, New Zealand. Mochalova (born 26 May 1987) ran the 4700m distance over a very steep course in 21 minutes 50 seconds to defend the title she won in 2004. On 14 Jun 2005 she ran the 3000m steeple in 10:14.64 for third place in the Russian Junior Championships at Tula.

Mochalova arrived in Wellington during the night before the race and had only three hours of sleep before the event started. Despite not having seen the course, she started fast and led all the way.

The next five placers at Wellington were: Mateja Kosovelj 88) LIT 22:00; Hulya Ongun (89) TUR 22:46; Lucija Krkoc (88) SLO 22:54; Suzana Mladenovic (87) SLO 23:31; Ruth Croft (89) NZL 23;45.
