USA national high school champion steepler Marie Lawrence is reported to become a student at the University of Washington [Seattle] in September 2007. There she could be coached by Kelly Strong who ran 3000m steeple in 9:48.90 this year.
Lawrence, now age 17, attends Reno (Nevada) High School. In July 2005 at age 15 she placed second in the 3000m steeple at Pan-American Junior Championships.
In June 2006 Lawrence won the 2000m steeple in record time of 6:35.63 at USA High School meet. Five days later she moved up to 3000m to win the USATF Junior Championship in 10:15.26 and at age 16, competed in the longer race at World Junior Championships in Beijing, China.
