2007 World Youth Standards
December 5, 2006
Qualifying standards have been announced for the 2007 IAAF World Youth Championships, July 11-15, at Ostrava in the Czech Republic. For girls 2000-meter steeplechase there is only one standard; it is 6:52 (6 minutes 52 seconds). The qualifying "window" is from 1 January 2006 to 25 June 2007.

For this meet "youth" is defined as athletes age 15, 16, or 17 on 31 December 2007-- athletes born in 1990, 1991, or 1992. The IAAF website list currently shows only three athletes of those ages have so far achieved the 6:52 standard: Karoline Grovdal of Norway, Jessica Gilfillan of Australia, and Shelby Greany of USA. The Australian Youth Championships later this week could increase that list as could competitions during 2007.

There is an alternative standard -- 5:04 in the 1500-meter steeplechase. The IAAF website does not display a list for that event but Steeple Report produces, in early January, an annual world list of best marks for 1500m steeple.
