Anna (Willard) Pierce teleconference Tuesday afternoon
January 19, 2010
One of the most successful and most popular female middle-distance runners in the United States, Anna (Willard) Pierce, will appear on a USA Track & Field media teleconference at 5:15 p.m. Eastern Time on Tuesday, January 19, 2010. Pierce, the defending USA indoor champion in 1,500m, will headline the women's mile January 29 at the 103rd Millrose Games at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

Pierce, who married 3,000m steeplechaser Jonathan Pierce in September, won last year at the London Grand Prix, finished second in Zurich and ended the season ranked #6 in the world and #3 in the U.S. for 1,500m by Track & Field News.

The former steeplechase American record holder dipped under 4:00 for 1,500m and 2:00 for 800m, posting a U.S.-leading 3:59.38 for the longer distance and the second-fastest time for the 800 (1:58.80).

[Dr. James Fields note: To that "complete" bio add this: Of USA 1500m runners, only legends Mary Decker Slaney and Suzy Favor Hamilton have run faster than Anna. Further, in 2009 Anna was unbeaten in outdoor 800m races -- including her victory in the IAAF "World Athletics Final" on September 12 in Greece.]
