More Entry Standards
December 31, 2004
Our previous report presented the (finish time) standards required for entry into the women's 3000-meter steeplechase at World Championships next August in Helsinki. Now here the entry standards for that event in 2005 at USA national collegiate meets.
The NCAA Division 1 championship finals meet will be June 8-11 at Sacramento; entry will be based on placing May 27-28 in one of four regional meets: East at New York, Mid-East at Bloomington, Mid-West at Norman, or West at Eugene. Steeplers must have run 10:52.10 for entry into a regional meet.
NCAA Divisions 2 and 3 have no regionals; both have a championship meet May 26-28. For direct entry to Div. 2 at Abilene, Texas, athletes must achieve the 10:20 "A" standard or hope for invitation with the 11:27 "B" standard. For Div. 3 championship at Waverly, Iowa, the "A" standard is 10:44; the "B" standard is 11:21.
The National Association for Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) returns to Louisville, Kentucky, for its 2005 national meet. The "A" standard is 11:25 and "B" is 11:45. Women's steeple trials are at 1950 on May 26; the final is at 1400 on May 28.
