Anna Pierce wins USA 1-Mile Road ChampionshipMay 13, 2010

(Former?) steepler Anna [Willard] Pierce won the USA one-mile road championship on Thursday, 13 May 2010, at Minneapolis -- edging by one second Sarah Bowman who five days earlier won the 800m in 2:02.25 at Tennessee Invitational meet in Knoxville.
Two other national-level steeplers also ran; Lindsay Allen placed 11th and Mason Cathey was 13th. Christin Wurth led most of the way but Pierce and Bowman closed fast in the final minute.
The race was contested on a straightaway course but finish times did not match the classic formula of 1.08 x 1500m time. Had the formula prevailed, the winner would have finished the mile about 4:19.
