Steepling Safety Series – Part Five

If a steepler falls in the water trailing runners must see her so they can move to left or right for barrier clearance and avoid stepping on that downed athlete. Therefore no vision-blocking material should be placed between the barrier uprights. The rules of IAAF and USATF do not mention such material – but NCAA rules permit, though do not require, its use.
