Having broken 9:30 eight days earlier MacFarlane hoped for a faster time in the trials but was pleased to win an automatic qualifier for Australia's Olympic team.
Rollison won a flat 1500m in 4:23.24 seven days earlier but was not on the trials entry list a day before this race. It was her first steeple after losing a year (2007) because of injury. Now she and others behind MacFarlane will chase the 9:46 Olympic entry "A" standard which has to be made between 1 Jan 2007 and 23 July 2008.
In 2006 Rollison ran under 9:46 three times including her 9:24.29 personal best. Mitchell ran a 9:30.84 personal best in 2006 and nine races under the 9:46 "A" standard.
Jessica Gilfillan, born 10 Feb 1992, is now the youngest qualifier for 2008 World Junior Championships. In this meet she was far under was far under the 11:00 entry standard.
