USATF Rule Change Proposed
November 25, 2006
Ann Gaffigan, webmaster for lady steepler website www.steeplechics.com, has proposed to USA Track and Field a rule change that may eliminate some national championship uncertainties as to who will run -- and when.

Gaffigan, the 2004 USA champion in 9:39.35, wants competition heats to be finalized and made known to concerned persons "at least 24 hours prior to the time of competition for each event." She points out that competitors (and not just steeplechasers but other distance runners as well) have, in the past, not known until shortly before start time if they were to run heats or not -- a situation that can affect athletes preparation and performance.

This and other proposed changes will be considered during the USATF annual convention November 29 - December 3 at Indianapolis. More at www.usatf.org/about/annualmeeting
