Steeple Report 334 last summer introduced Marie Lawrence, a precocious 15-year-old steepler who took second in the Pan-American Junior Championships behind Brazil's Sabine Heitling. Now Lawrence has won this USA high school national meet in record time and on June 23 at Indianapolis tries for USA team going to Beijing for 2006 World Junior Championships -- where she would still be only age 16. At Greensboro she showed her strength on the global standard 3.66m water jump, then increased the pace on final backstretch to overtake favored Lindsey Ferguson and win by almost 10 seconds.
